Ai-Petry

Mount St. Peter or Ai-Petri is the heart of the southern coast of Crimea.

Tourists come here from all over, because you don't have to climb here yourself. A comfortable funicular will lift to a dizzying height in a matter of minutes, and you will see a flat plateau instead of sharp teeth of a mountain.

The view from the mountain is extraordinary: everything is covered with clouds, a small piece of land is barely visible through the haze of whiteness, and near the horizon is the blue cover of the endless sea.

At the top there are a lot of entertainment: the oriental bazaar, where you can buy products from wool, oriental skewers, herbs, tea, oriental sweets, spices; horse riding, many restaurants and cafes with Tatar cuisine. Here you can take a walk, get a couple of warm scarves, weigh a paprika bag and choose the best pieces of baklava.

Palace of the Crimean Khans. Bakhchisarai

The Palace of the Crimean Khans in Bakhchisarai is the embodiment of the spirit of the east. The architectural complex accurately reflects the national color of the Crimean Tatar people. Having endured many pseudo-restorations and rebuilding, this palace miraculously preserved the unique atmosphere of medieval life.

The palace was built by Khan Haji-Giray in the beginning of the 16th century. Construction was completed in the middle of the XVI century under Khan Sahib Girei. In its architectural style, one can consider the traditions of Ottoman architecture; in the style of the same fountains, flower beds and gazebos embodied the Muslim vision of heaven on earth.

Above the main gate are two snakes interlacing in a fight. There is a legend about the origin of the coat of arms of Girey, which tells how one day the son of Mengli-Girey went hunting. Alone on the banks of the Churuk-su river, he suddenly saw the scene of a struggle between two snakes. One of them, severely injuring the other, crawled off into the grass, where she met a new rival. The first, it seemed, had no chance of survival. From the last forces of the snake crawled to the river. Twisting, she plunged into the water. When she crawled out onto the shore, there was not even a trace of wounds left on it. In what he saw Mengli Giray recognized the lucky sign. Later, in the place where two snakes fought, the khan ordered to build a palace, and he ordered two stranded snakes to be carved on the palace coat of arms. So Bakhchisarai appeared.

Monument to the Scuttled Ships

Perhaps, the most famous sight in Sevastopol is a Monument to the Flooded Ships. Its underwater part consists of well-laid stone blocks, in the shape of a square. An artificial stone cliff, three meters high, rises on this secure foundation. The base of the column, on which the quotation is engraved: “In memory of the ships submerged in 1854-1855. to barred the entrance to the raid. " A seven-meter column towers over the base of the cliff, ending with a capital or pedestal on which the royal two-headed eagle stands. The eagle proudly spread its wings. He has a wreath in his beak. From the top of the wreath hangs an anchor chain with an anchor, and the laurel wreath itself consists of two parts: laurel leaves - the symbol of victory, and oak leaves - a symbol of faith and glory.

The history of the monument began in 1854, when the combined fleet of 4 states approached Sevastopol - the main base of the Black Sea Fleet of Czarist Russia. According to the plan of the enemy, the campaign was designed for two weeks. During this time, it was required to completely destroy the Black Sea Fleet, take Sevastopol and the largest cities of Crimea.

House Museum of an underground workers

The museum is located at number 46 on Revyakina Street. Revyakina Street starts from the railway and bus stations of Sevastopol. Walk about twenty minutes.

In July 1942, after 250 days of defense, Sevastopol was occupied by the German army, and this museum contains exhibits that tell about the tragic fate of people who fought against the fascists in occupied Sevastopol. For a long time, the Germans planned to rename the city to Theodorichshafen. In Sevastopol, they even entered their banknotes. Residents of the city, in order not to die of starvation, had to work for the Germans for an incredibly low salary. Soon labor service became mandatory for all persons from 14 to 65 years. Those who evaded working for the occupants were threatened with forced labor and even the death penalty. For example, young people N. Lyalin, A. Vlasov and V. Matsuk were executed. Their photos can be seen in the museum.

The museum contains orders and German newspapers, which say that the German government freed the people of Sevastopol from Bolshevism and invites those who wish to go to Germany for a better life. The girls were lured by beautiful pictures, told about fashionable European dresses. In fact, the majority of such dreamers about a better life for people fell into camps. Only in the territory of Sevastopol there were more than 20 prisoner of war camps where regular executions took place. The sophistication of the killings and the composure of the fascist authorities are still terrifying. But even this could not break the Soviet people, who organized the struggle against the fascists on their own.
